Thursday, Friday, Sailor-day!

First stop Pag's. If you don't arrive right at noon, you'll be lining up on the street for a table. Saturday nights, it's worth arriving late because they hand out mugs of red wine and baskets of bread to the people in line. It's like a party on the sidewalk!

Mmm--a bottomless bowl of homemade soup, unlimited warm bread and Italian red wine. It doesn't get much better than this!

No trip downtown is complete without a stop at Roger's to pick up peanut butter creams for the boy and a dark chocolate peppermint cream or three for me.

Munro's Books on Government Street was opened by the former husband of author Alice Munro. With a literary connection like that, it's bound to be a great book store! The staff are super helpful and there always lots of interesting books on their sale table for people who dislike paying full price for anything.

Creme brulee is one of the best inventions ever! A thick creamy pot of it with a big mug of coffee at Murchie's is the perfect ending to an afternoon downtown.

Missing my sailor extra today, so I retraced one of our standard Saturday downtown days by myself. As expected, it wasn’t as much fun without him. He laughs when I try to be funny and listens intently when I’m serious. He’s the only person with whom I don’t edit myself.

He gets the uncut version of Nanette, and that hasn’t scared him off yet. For that reason alone, he’s a keeper.
